The votes have been tallied and the winners proclaimed, and Occupier Evil Village has stupefy out Valheim, New World, Cyberpunk 2077, and Forza Horizon 5 to claim the Game of the Twelvemonth claim in the 2021 Steam Awards.

Resident Evil Village is, of course, the game with Gentlewoman Dimitrescu, the lamia of great height who we hoped to see regular more of in the future. We liked IT quite an bit, calling it "a grimly resplendent collection of killer horror rig-pieces, with any of the virtually memorably fantastical enemies in Resi account" in our 85% review—not quite Game of the Year score, mayhap, but what fun would it equal if these things were unanimous?

(For the record, Personal computer Gamer selected Valheim as its Game of the Year, on with various new categories that you pot honkytonk into Hera.)

Game of the Year is the big incomparable, but I think the other categories and winners in that year's Steam clean Awards are actually even more than interesting. In the VR category, for example, Sniper Elite VR, Medal of Honor: Above and On the far side 2, I Expect You to Die 2, and Blair Witch VR Edition—staple videogame fare from top to bottom—were all beaten out by Preparation Simulator VR. The surprise bump off It Takes Deuce beat massive releases including Back 4 Parentage and Glory Infinite for the Punter With Friends family, and Marvel's Guardians of the Wandflower claimed the Best Soundtrack crown with its intemperately-licensed "All-Star '80s Soundtrack."

Cyberpunk 2077 also went home with some hardware: After failing to win in either of the 2021 Gamey Awards categories in which it was nominative, 400 Projekt's much-troubled futuristic RPG was given the Outstanding Story-Rich Bet on award. Farming Simulator 22 took a title of respect too, every bit this year's best Pose Back and Relax game.

Unlike some other congratulatory extravaganzas (including The Back Awards), the Steam clean Awards are nominated and awarded solely based on drug user votes. Neither is it necessary for nominees to be 2021 releases: Cyberpunk 2077, for instance, came come out of the closet in 2020, patc the entire Labor of Love family is dedicated to games that have been around awhile.

All of the 2021 Steam clean Prize winners are now on sale in the Steam Overwinter Sales event, which testament soon be over: It wraps up at 10 am PT/1 post-mortem examinatio ET on Jan 5. The full inclination of winners is below.

  • Game of the Twelvemonth: Resident Offensive Hamlet (Valheim, Refreshing Populace, Cyberpunk 2077, Forza Horizon 5)
